Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about how pre-settlement funding works. If your question isn't here, ask us when you apply.

Is this a loan?

No. Pontem buys the right to a portion of your future settlement. Because repayment depends on your case, you owe nothing if you lose, there are no monthly payments, and your credit is never checked.

How much can I receive?

Usually a modest share of your case's estimated value. We keep advances conservative so most of your settlement stays with you. The exact amount depends on the facts of your case, your injuries and the insurance coverage available.

What does it cost?

Charges grow with time and are listed in dollars in your contract before you sign, including the amount you would owe at each six-month point. You can repay early with no penalty.

Do I need an attorney?

Yes. We fund only cases where an attorney represents you, and your attorney must review and sign an acknowledgment of the contract.

Will this affect my case?

No. We have no role in your case. Your attorney continues to make legal decisions with you, and we never contact the other side.

What if I change attorneys?

Your contract stays in place. Let us know, and we'll send the new attorney the acknowledgment to sign.

Where is Pontem available?

We currently fund cases in California. Additional states are planned.
